Kanysh Satpayev: from a rural school to academician
Kanysh Imantayevich Satpayev (1899–1964) was an outstanding Kazakh geologist, organizer and the first president of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. Having received his primary education from a village mullah and then a rural school, he traversed a great path in science and became an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, laying the foundation for modern science in Kazakhstan.
Kanysh Satpayev paid special attention to training national scientific personnel. He identified talented young people from various regions of Kazakhstan, helped them get an education, supported novice researchers and engaged them in scientific work. During the difficult years following collectivization, he brought ten children from Bayanaul to Almaty, helped them get an education and take their first steps in science. This act became a vivid example of his care for the future of the younger generation. Many of his students subsequently became famous scientists, doctors of science and academicians.
The Academy of Young Researchers "QANYSH ZHOLY" aims to continue this path: identifying talented schoolchildren, assigning mentors to them, and consistently supporting them in science — from the first school research project to earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.

"SCHOOLCHILD" PROGRAM
The "SCHOOLCHILD" program of the "QANYSH ZHOLY" Academy of Young Researchers is aimed at identifying and supporting talented 9-11 grade students who show an interest in science and research activities.
GOAL: involving students in scientific and research activities, developing research skills, and accompanying their first steps in science.
MAIN STAGES:
1. Acceptance of applications from participants (talented students of grades 9–11).
2. Formation of a group of talented young researchers.
3. Conducting an introductory online seminar.
4. Independent work on finding and selecting a scientific topic (humanities, technical, natural sciences, and other fields).
5. Choosing a mentor in the chosen area of scientific research.
6. Working with a mentor on a scientific project.
7. Preparation of the final scientific project, presentation of results, and determination of the participant's future scientific and educational trajectory (choice of study direction).
EXPECTED RESULT: the student will prepare a scientific project, present the results of the work; the student will determine the future direction of their education and scientific development.

"I successfully completed my Bachelor's degree at Tongji University (Shanghai, China), majoring in Engineering Logistics. During my studies in China and the preparation of my thesis, Professor O.T. Balabayev was my academic advisor and provided crucial support in setting tasks and preparing the thesis, which strengthened my interest in research activities.
I am joining the Academy of Young Researchers «QANYSH ZHOLY» under the «BACHELOR» program to jointly determine a relevant topic for my future master's thesis with my mentor and prepare for further master's studies."
"I am joining the Academy of Young Researchers «QANYSH ZHOLY» under the «PhD DOCTORAL STUDENT» program to systematically prepare for admission to the doctoral program at the Azerbaijan Technical University in Baku, Azerbaijan.
I believe that the «QANYSH ZHOLY» Academy is an important platform for young researchers, as it helps to build a scientific trajectory, receive mentoring support, and confidently move to the next stage of academic development.
I plan that participation in the «PhD DOCTORAL STUDENT» program will allow me, under the guidance of Professor O.T. Balabayev, to clarify my scientific direction, determine a relevant topic for my future dissertation research, develop research competencies, and prepare for further scientific work."
"Studying in the bachelor's program and completing my thesis under the guidance of Professor O.T. Balabayev became an important stage of professional growth for me. The research experience I gained helped me confidently continue my academic journey.
Currently, based on a letter of recommendation from Professor O.T. Balabayev, I am studying at the USC Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California, in the master's program “Global Supply Chain Management” in Los Angeles, USA
I am joining the Academy of Young Researchers «QANYSH ZHOLY» under the «MASTER'S STUDENT» program to develop my scientific competencies, work with a mentor, prepare publications, and build my future research trajectory."
